As beautiful, mysterious, complex, fascinating and voracious as they are...jellyfish are becoming a problem. We've been destroying the populations of apex predators (blue fin tuna, sharks, rays, turtles...) as well as medium level food chain goers with a mix of our nets, overfishing, and pollution, oh, and, kidnapping for aquariums. So now we're seeing an increase in jellyfish spawns, huge clouds of them devouring everything from tiny invertebrates to decent sized fish. And they don't produce carbon dioxide. They replace the sea water they take in with a jellified substance lacking in nutrients that nothing else can live in. 

So, here's the math;

Oceans - Top predators + Human Carelessness = JellyfishX + Jellified Oceans - everything nutritious for anyone.

The solution? 

Recycle your plastics, dont throw them out. Take care with what you eat, if it's a sustainable source from the oceans, or if it was caught from a dwindling population. Raise awareness, tell folks. But at the very least, you can care. 

Because ultimately, when the oceans die, we'll die. When there's more jelly than water, phytoplankton won't make any more oxygen (70% of the planet's oxygen), and that'll be it.
